Scam Samples

Following up on Monday morning's portal announcement, here is the text of two recent scam emails.  Both of them are designed to collect login credentials.

scam example 1

In this example, the smudged-out "from" name was the recipient's co-worker -- a well known name.  This is trivially easy to forge, so please don't trust an email based on sender alone.

In the second example, the sender purports to be writing for IIT (formerly DIET) but they have not attempted to falsify the return address.  The scammer also assumes we use Outlook Web Access, which is not the case.

Not all scams have these clues -- they can be very, very subtle!  Please give yourself time to think before you respond to email asking you to click on something!
